Hometric

Know what you own. Understand your coverage.

Live on the App Store

An AI-powered home inventory for iPhone — the first Baran Labs release. Photograph your rooms; Hometric identifies your belongings, estimates what they'd cost to replace, and turns the result into a report your insurer can actually use.

The problem

Nobody knows what their home contains.

Almost nobody can say what their home contains. Belongings accumulate a purchase at a time, and the full picture only matters on the day something goes wrong — a fire, a storm, a break-in. That's exactly when an insurer asks for an itemized list with values, and exactly when it's hardest to produce one.

The traditional answer is a spreadsheet and a free weekend. Most of those inventories are started once, abandoned halfway through the second room, and never opened again. Typing three hundred items is a chore no one repeats.

Meanwhile, personal property coverage on a standard policy is usually set by formula — a percentage of the dwelling limit — not by what's actually in the house. The gap between the two is invisible until a claim makes it expensive.

What we built

An inventory you can actually finish.

Hometric reduces the inventory to the effort of taking photos. You photograph a room; the app identifies the items it can see, estimates a replacement value for each one, and organizes everything by room. What used to be an afternoon of data entry becomes a walk through the house.

Then it does the part a spreadsheet never did. Hometric compares your inventory's total against your policy's personal property limit, flags category sub-limits — jewelry, electronics — you may exceed, calls out individual items that likely need separate scheduling, and exports the whole record as a PDF built for an adjuster's questions.

How it works

A walk through the house, start to finish.

01

Document room by room

Each room tracks its own items and documentation health, so you always know what's captured and what still needs attention. Six rooms in, the app knows the house.

02

See what it's all worth

Values roll up by room and by category, with your most valuable items ranked. The total comes with a range, because an estimate presented as a precise number would be a lie.

03

Compare against your policy

Enter your policy's limits and Hometric shows where your inventory stands against them — including the category sub-limits most people don't know their policy has.

04

Catch the items that need scheduling

A ring or a camera can quietly exceed a policy's standard limits. Hometric lists the items likely to need separate coverage and explains the options in plain language.

High-value items

When you need it, everything exports as a single PDF — items, photos, values, serial numbers — the document an insurer asks for and almost nobody has.

Craft notes

Decisions we'd make again.

  • 01

    iPhone-first

We build for one platform at a time and do it properly. Android will come when it can meet the same bar — as its own product, not a port.

  • 02

    Paid, and honest about it

Hometric is $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year after a free month. There's no permanent free tier: an app whose entire job is a detailed record of your home shouldn't be funded by ads or data. If you stop paying, your inventory stays viewable in the app, and you can request a full copy of your data at any time.

  • 03

    Designed backwards from the claim

The PDF export came first. Every screen exists to make that document complete — which is why the app tracks documentation health, not streaks.
